Metabolism: The Role of Mindset

mindset Mar 30, 2022

There's one component that many people disregard when it comes to your metabolism, and that's your mindset. Some of the vital pieces I've covered in the past are nutrition, movement, rest and recovery. The last piece of the puzzle is mindset. And sometimes that can be the hardest part.

So what do we mean by mindset? It's really your attitude or how you approach different situations and challenges. And having a positive growth mindset is going to make all those aspects of your metabolism that much easier. Ultimately, you want to look at your health holistically. And your metabolism is very adaptable. So it's going to adapt to all those different changes. Whether you have hard workouts, light workouts, eat a lot, eat a little, and then having that strong mindset is key to bringing all the pieces together.

When it comes to ways that you can ensure you nurture a growth mindset, you want to focus on things like being grateful or having a gratitude journal. I've found that's one of the best ways to get out of the bad mood or when you're in just a bad headspace. Stop and take a minute to list all the things that you're grateful for because the odds are you're in a better place than someone else. And when you look at the littlest things, it's hard to be in a bad mood or have a fixed mindset.

You also want to focus on meditation and being mindful. Now being mindful can be as simple as eating a meal without any distractions, so no phone, no TV, no book, just focused on your meal -- the taste, the texture and the smell. And when you're not distracted, it will also help you better understand when you feel full. I know a lot of people who eat while their working and all of the sudden, they will look up and they're like, "Oh my gosh! I ate and I don't even remember what I just ate or how much."

Mindfulness, having a gratitude journal, meditating - these are all really important to getting that growth mindset and keeping your metabolism and all the key pieces working smoothly.
