Sleep, Rest and Recovery

Let's talk about the importance of sleep. I've been struggling with my sleep the past couple of weeks. The quality is not there, I wake up, I can't fall back to sleep and it's been bothering me for a few weeks now. So recently, the past couple of days all of a sudden my sleep quality has really increased. I typically track in on my Fitbit. Your Fitbit will track your sleep quality based on your heart rate how many times you move and wake up throughout the night.

So the past couple of days my sleep has drastically improved. I'm sleeping thru the night, I don't wake up, I'm sleeping like a rock. And I thought about it and I was like "Oh my gosh! I've recently increased my carbs" So I was on very low carbs for a few weeks trying to just do a mini cut and now I've increased my carbs and I'm like "That is it! That is the one change that I've made" So if you are low carb, if you're keto, if you've been on a low-carb diet or low-calorie diet for a really long time and you're finding that you're not sleeping well, that could be a factor. Try increasing your carbs for a day or two and see if that improves your sleep if you are struggling with your sleep.

The other thing I want to mention since we are talking about rest and recovery is if you do lift weights, the importance of taking time in between your sets to take a break, and I struggle with this. I always rush thru my sets like back to back sets, no rest. For you to get stronger, you really need to take a good one to two minute break between heavy sets. And these are sets where it's a struggle to get thru, those heavy lifts, because you come back stronger and I've been doing this and really noticing difference on how much I could lift, in my recovery so I just wanna throw it out there. On those heavy lift days, make sure you take really good solid breaks in between your sets so that you come back stronger and that's gonna help your muscle growth, it's gonna help your recovery, all that good stuff.

The importance of recovery, sleep and how your diet really impacts so many aspects of your health. Let me know if you found out any changes on your diet have really impacted your sleep.
